IRONMAN Florida 2026: Early Qualification Drives Strong Field

IRONMAN Florida 2026 brings Magnus Ditlev, Sam Long, Holly Lawrence and Alanis Siffert to Panama City Beach on 7 November. The updated entries exclude Chelsea Sodaro, with World Championship places and $100,000 available. For hybrid athletes, the race offers a useful look at pacing, changing conditions and purposeful race scheduling.

Magnus Ditlev, Sam Long, Holly Lawrence and Alanis Siffert are among the leading entries for IRONMAN Florida on Saturday 7 November, where late-season racing carries consequences for next year’s plans.

The latest field reported by TRI247 contains 60 professional men and 15 professional women. Chelsea Sodaro, the 2022 IRONMAN World Champion, appeared on the provisional list but is absent from the updated entries. The report gives no reason for that change.

At Panama City Beach, athletes will contest three professional qualification places per gender for the 2027 IRONMAN World Championship, alongside a $100,000 prize purse.

Who is lining up for IRONMAN Florida 2026?

Ditlev returns after holding the lead deep into the Kona marathon. Having raced Florida in 2023, he knows the course and has identified early qualification as a way to concentrate more fully on next year’s World Championships.

Long arrives following sixth place in Hawaii. He has also discussed qualifying early to preserve flexibility in his 2027 schedule, having considered both Florida and Cozumel.

Their opposition includes Cam Wurf, Matt Hanson, Ben Kanute and Rudy von Berg. Wurf has already qualified through IRONMAN Maryland, giving him a different starting point from those still pursuing a place.

In the women’s race, Lawrence’s preparation follows a mid-season stress reaction. Sixth on her Kona debut in 2025, she has expressed enthusiasm about racing after her recovery work, while acknowledging that she would welcome more preparation time.

Siffert brings a Challenge Roth victory and bronze at the IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship. Her planned race at Challenge Shanghai was cancelled after a typhoon warning. Lawrence is joined by fellow British entrants Lydia Dant, Dee Allen, Brooke Gillies and Megan McDonald: together, they represent a third of the women’s field.

What could decide the race, and how can you follow?

Florida offers the prospect of quick racing, but its relatively flat profile does not remove the uncertainty. Gulf currents can complicate the swim, while wind may influence the bike, particularly on the return towards transition.

The run has little climbing and finishes at Pier Park. For spectators interested in how performance develops across successive disciplines, the splits should provide more context than the final finishing order alone.

  • Start: Saturday 7 November, with the professional swim scheduled for 5:40am local time at Russell-Fields Pier.
  • Swim: 3.8km across two clockwise laps, separated by a short beach run. Race-day conditions determine wetsuit eligibility.
  • Bike: one 180km lap through intercoastal waterways and Pine Log State Forest, with predominantly flat terrain and some rolling sections.
  • Run: a two-lap, 42.2km coastal course with spectator support.
  • Following the action: no live television coverage is listed; use the IRONMAN Tracker app for progress, splits and positions.
  • Prize money: equal men’s and women’s allocations, with each winner receiving $15,000 and payments extending to 10th.

What should hybrid athletes take from Florida?

For athletes preparing for HYROX or hybrid racing, the clearest point of interest is purposeful scheduling. Ditlev and Long are not simply adding another start: early qualification could remove a significant requirement from next season. Consider what your own next event is intended to achieve before adding it to the calendar.

There is also a useful viewing question: how do positions change between the bike and the marathon? Follow the progression rather than treating one fast split as the whole performance. Florida’s currents and wind also make conditions worth considering alongside times.

This is not a session to copy. If the coverage inspires extra training, scale a run by shortening it or using run–walk intervals, and scale cycling by reducing duration or resistance. Stop either activity if pain develops or changes your movement. Lawrence’s reported recovery is personal context, not medical clearance for anyone else; injury-related training decisions need clinician review.
